Big woop.

How is that different from Dragon Masks, Tengu Helms, Pumpkin Crowns, Yule Caps, Reindeer Horns, Candy Cane Axes, Bows, Shields, Wands, et al, Spiked Eggnog, Eggnog, Snowmen, Witches's Brew, Absinthe, Ghosts, Bean Cakes, Rice Wine, Festival Presents and on and on and on.....

I also said the Holiday Greens would HAVE to be alternate versions of already existing Greens (ie: Victo's Battle Axe with a new name and a new skin) so that you COULD get an identical item if necessary.
For one there’s no outrageous price for event items. Masks are customized so you can’t sell them, now can you so there is a difference there already. With the other items they aren’t any real value other then collectors and there’s mass volume.

But let’s really stop beating around the bush and come out with the truth you want a green event item you can sell for a high price. That’s the only reason I see why you would want event greens.

I’ll go for those event greens as long as they are automatically customized for the player it drops for, other wise I don’t see the point in “alternate versions”.

End of argument, this isn’t really a topic to argue about it.

Default I liked the event

Quote:
[*]Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending?
The day sort thing - I would have to stay awaken far past midnight if it were a single one time thing, like a lot of other people.

Quote:
[*]Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?
I liked the games, I only felt like they were too close to each other (more spacing between them would have been nice).

Quote:
[*]Were you able to complete the Captain missions?
Nope, since I couldn't use henches to do them. I didn't try hard to get a group, though, I was too busy with the games

Quote:
[*]Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?
Heh, I'm keeping the gifts unopened as souvenirs (since we don't have storage for the different items, this way I can keep everything in one single slot).

What I missed, though, were the "flashy" drops. In both Wintersday and Halloween, we had new items that had some flashy graphics - the snowman in Wintersday and the Ghost in a Box in Halloween, for example. Those were very cool looking, and I missed something like that.

(Would have been soooo cool to have something to trigger a temporary Celestial Dragon pet, that flied around us and disappeared )

And about unique (green) items dropping...I don't think it would be fair to have those in a limited event. What I think would have been cool would be to introduce in the events green items that would be available after it ended. For example, now would have been the perfect time to introduce green Dragonstaffs in Divine Path, since it lacks staffs, and the Dragonstaff screen not only fits the festival, but it's a very nice looking one. If it also dropped in the Captain missions, it would be the ice on the cake (is that the proper expression? )

Quote:
[*]What did you like best? Least?
The finale. The entire Emperor thing, with his nice speech, then the masks (and everyone wearing them as soon as they got them ), then the mini game with the Celestial Orbs and then the fireworks with the gifts falling...All of it was amazing.

What I liked the least were some of the bugs we saw - the loss of pets, the change in the ranger's face, the many Emperors in some districts. Those things have been scarcely seen in GW for a very long time, it was a suprise to see all of those during the Festival

(I blame the Turtle Dragon, I think he got envious of all the attention given to his cousin )

The event timing was good. The announcement in the chat box prior to the Emperor arriving was great - it meant that a fair number of our alliance ended up in the same district.

I didn't particularly like the "gambling" games because 1) I wasn't interested in afking for titles 2) I spent more than I won in the end so I could never trade in for presents which is what I really wanted from the games.

The interface the worm game was such that I got turned away at a busy district and told to come back later. I didn't go back. Perhaps this could be improved?

Dragon Arena was great fun... But I found lag to be unfriendly at times. I'd get frustrated you know, "I dodged that!".

As others have said I'd have liked something else to do with the orbs. I only wanted one mask so had exactly 250 orbs for talking to the emperor, but after I'd got the mask I got jade orbs for running the celestial things and jade orbs from the presents - about 60 in the end which had no use.

The early missions were fine and very easy with the distructive power of my Level 20 elementalist. The later quests which were considerably more difficult I didn't end up completing after a few attempts with a group of 4. The reward was not worth it when I already had enough orbs for the one mask I wanted.

Highlight - the final event with lots of people from the alliance.
Lowlight - the Rujiyo quests not worth the effort.

1) I prefer the final day ending because then I don't have to call in sick to work

2) I EXTREMELY enjoyed the games. I think they're a novel idea, especially the hatchling tag. I also love how we get a different flavor of PvP as well (the Dragon Arena).

The thing I enjoyed most about this festival was the diversity. You could play the Dragon Arena or test your mettle in hardcore PvE or sit and work on the Lucky/Unlucky titles. I didn't feel locked into being able to do only one thing.

3) I didn't attempt the Captain missions because I was too busy working on Lucky/Unlucky.

4) I DID score alot of loot from present drops (350 presents). However, I WAS off that day and I stuck to an area that didn't have alot of competition.

5) I liked the hatchling tag the most. I also liked how this event allowed my Tyrian character to explore a non-exploreable Canthan area

The thing I liked the least would have to be the reward for the PvE missions (and this coming from someone who didn't even attempt any). Had the reward been alot better, I would have been really torn between working on Lucky/Unlucky and finding a PvE group.

.

POSITIVES!

- The variety of things to do at the festival.

- Two new titles introduced.

- Enough content to keep you busy for several days instead of just a few hours.

- Plenty of information to avoid missing something (GuildWarsGuru is a godsend in this department).

- You found a way to insure people who couldn't be here for the event, were still able to get their mask.

- The festival introduced new mechanics to give it a fresh feel. Bean cakes, hatchling tag, the 'split area' of Shing Jea, the missions.

- I liked how you could actually outrun the grasps (if you had bean cakes) so it wasn't a slaughter all the time (which is what it kinda felt like against the grentches). I also liked the auto-resurrect (which I hated not having during the kuunavang BWE).

.

NEGATIVES!

- The reward for the Captain's missions was not even close to being worth the time and frustration investment. I was really considering stopping working on my titles until I found out it was just 50 orbs, at which point I decided it just wasn't worth it.

- I'm sure you empathize with this one Gaile.. the poor poor rangers

.

RECOMMENDATIONS!

- There was alot of confusion regarding the times. I recommend using timers instead. Have a timer to countdown to the start of the festival. Have a timer to countdown to the first 'occurance' of the final event. Have a timer to countdown to the last 'occurance' of the final event.

- Stats tracking for Dragon Arena players (who killed the most people, who died the most, who had the most kills before dying, etc). You want stats that can't be afk'ed or fixed. This is iffy. Just searching for a way to reward hardcore PvP'ers.

- There should be three levels of PvE. Intermediate, Advanced, and Extreme. Intermediate could be 8 people, with 50 orb rewards. Advanced could be 6 people with a mixture of orbs and maybe some moderate loot. Extreme could be orbs and rare loot.

.

I'll post more as I think of it...

the only problem i saw with the quest is detail from the rpg side. running over to close riffs is cool. But you could had a players read a scroll or player charctor chanting words to close the riffs

> Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending?

Finale that is repeated like the previous events, so that there is time for people to be there and/or to get event items for more than one character.

> Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?

They were a nice idea and a step more in that direction wouldn't hurt. Kinda very short term interest though, once the novelty's gone there's nothing more to them (as they currently are)

> Were you able to complete the Captain missions?

With guildmates (all level 20s and we had a very organised group build) did one of them. I can see how it would have been frustrating and next to impossible for people perhaps starting out in Cantha or who didn't have access to organised groups.

> Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?

Not particularly - the spawn campers zapped the fun out of it.

> What did you like best? Least?

The notification the event was about to happen was an excellent idea. The festival games in the training area were the best. The spawn campers and the usual idiot 8 year old crowd who turn up were the least enjoyable parts of it.

Please add randomisation for future drop and collect events, and perhaps keep some moderators around to boot off the swearing and generally immature brats who ALWAYS turn up at these events to help ruin the atmosphere.

Definitely an all-day thing to let people find time in their schedules. Just don't leave vague hints of a "special" ending to the last finale and make me stay up until 2 AM to find out next time!

The majority of statistical analyses confirm that you are just loosing money by playing them. The only thing you can get from that is a few titles, and neither can be maxed at the moment.

Definitely. The Captain missions are a bit unforgiving, but with a bit of coordination between team members proved to be a fun challenge.

A drop in the bucket for me, but it was free, so I'm not complaining.

The best thing was the challenging mini-missions. The worst thing was completing the first one and then getting a measly 50 orbs from it, despite the fact that the drops were scaled to the area and not the enemies.

I would have prefered a mix of both. I like the every 2 hours thing, but there should be some sort of big finish in my opinion. It could be because I wanted a little more info on the story line, which the ending didnt give as much as I wanted
I quite agree here. Maybe it was the glitching, but I dont recall the Emperor really saying something like 'Here marks the end of the event' that left a real sense of finality. That might be why many waited until 4 am expecting an extra special conclusion. I honestly thought throughout the day they just had the minigame and Emperor coming so often because people complained last time they were not able to catch the NPC for getting their headgears with it being 3 hours apart. When the website said 'a conclusion we didnt want to miss' it really left the impression of something special at the very end. 1/5th of a festival period time isnt really a finale (def. the last and often climactic event or item in a sequence), its just the last day.

Up to a point I liked the ring games, until I found out the max level for the title and how much it cost for just the first level. They werent really something that you played, it was something you idled on while sleeping because you would end up in the hole if you were there or not. When I heard Whack a Worm, I thought it would be something we actually hit a few times to make it go down, not a tag game. I did like it as a tag game, I wouldnt mind a few more variations. I was a bit dissapointed seeing only 3 games in the game section (Dont get the wrong impression, I did really like the festival. Its just easier to say what dissapointed me to point out where it could get improved next time) and two were pretty much the same thing. I kind of had the vision of a mini carnival. It would be funny if there was a little spinny ride characters could go on, and 30 or so seconds later they came off of all dizzy, muttering, and screen wobbly. Also a place where you and a few friends each got a bow and during a time limit different monsters popped out (one hit kills). Each one would be worth different points and you got prizes at the end depending on your points.

I liked the daily event, but the ending was a little anti-climactic because of it. I think that feeling would be avoided with some kind of conclusion at the end - something as simple as a few more lines from the Emperor. Just something new and clever to wrap things up uniquely at the close of the festival, instead of one final identical repeat that leaves a slight emptiness.

I liked the whack-a-hatchling style game and I did gamble a little, but felt the ring games weren't engaging enough. More games that require attention and interaction with other players, like the hatchling game, would be great.

I don't remember all the captain's missions but I know I completed at least two of the difficult ones. I don't know about the rewards, they were pretty mediocre but at least relevant and then that left the partying to players who actually wanted to complete them as their reward in fun, not steamroll through for $.

I did score a lot of loot from the prize drops, but after the first time, it became a rather repetitive game of quickly finding a clear spot as the competition event finishes and focusing intensely on spawns for fifteen minutes.

My favorite part of the holiday was the festive atmosphere. It was my first experience with a Guild Wars holiday as during Christmas and Holloween I was pretty busy, and it felt very fresh to me. I liked the decorations and the partying and celebrations - it brought life to the Monastery. My least favorite was the small glitches witnessed, but they weren't a major problem at all. All in all, I had a lot of fun and am very thankful.

Exactly - it isn't. This is an outlet for our personal input to game representatives regarding our experiences with the holiday festivities, not voicing whether or not we agree with another's opinions or ideas for improvement. You shouldn't have commented on his in the first place, you sharp little bugger - no one gives a shit whether or not you sign off on it, and accusitorily calling him out on it when he's shown no wrong at all isn't going to get you any respect. Piss off.

Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending?

I think it should be an all day sort of ending, however, I think it should start out small and gradually build up to a FINAL finale. I got bored with seeing the same ending over and over again, and got confused because so many people seemed to think the ending would be this gigantic finale and it wasn't anything but a glitched up arrival of Kisu.

Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?

More variety, but what was presented was fun. However, I think there should be easier-to-get titles, not just for holiday events either, I find the vast majority of titles take forever to reach, particularly the holiday titles whereby people were spending 30-50k+ on tickets so they could get it. It's a waste of money that a lot of us don't have, because money is so hard to get. However, for what I played of the games I enjoyed them. The AFK's were a bit irritating though.

Were you able to complete the Captain missions?

Captain Rujiyo's missions? Nope. Every time I entered I died before my screen even finished loading. It resulted in a lot of spammed 'noob' remarks and irritated guild members due to the fact that they thought I wasn't 'trying', however, having a slow computer I was simply waiting to spawn, and, when spawn time arrived, I was down to 25% health and died almost instantly. The ghostly enemies made me happy though. I like ghosts.

Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?

Somewhat. I made more money in this festival (thanks to the gift drops and a generous player) than I have since I started playing, however, I was lucky I found more rice wine and bean cakes than Jade Wind Orbs. Thus, I was able to sell quite a few. I agree with those who think the drops were unfair, some people got copious amounts of gifts while some got nothing at all. I think next time they should be given out inventory-wise, but in abundance. It's a festival, what's the harm in giving each player 100 gifts each and calling it fair?

What did you like best? Least?

The general festivities, and the people.
I'll admit, Wintersday was much more appealing to me, but this event was still fun.
I liked the masks quite a lot, I love the idea of once-a-year items. However I think there should have been more beneficial goodies like event-only greens given at the end of quests (such as the Captains quests), rather than orbs that I wasn't planning on using. I think I gave away a good 400 orbs for free because I only wanted two masks and got them ASAP.
I also liked the mini-games, they were fun, overplayed but fun, and involved a lot of AFKer's. I enjoyed the tag-the-worm game though, yet, again, Jade Wind Orbs were given, it would have been nice if it was something more beneficial. I found doing the quests and a bit of farming was enough to get the correct amount of orbs needed for the mask.

Best?

What I didn't like?
The conclusion of the festival. The confusion. The glitches (although minor, became frustrating).
I would have liked to have known what exactly was going on so I didn't have to wait until 12-3AM+ to finally realise nothing was going to happen, and, thus, went to bed.
The gift drops were a little unfair, but, then again, they drop for everyone so I guess it's a first-come-first-serve type deal. I still think it could have been a little more fair to those who never got any.

I know a lot of people expected a bunch of gifts to appear in their inventory at the conclusion of the festivities, so as to balance out the who-got-tons:who-got-none ratio. At least that way we ALL would have got some. Although it wouldn't hurt for people with 300+ gifts to hand out a few to some of the less fortunate, I saw a few doing that, which is nice.

All in all, a festival is a festival. I enjoyed it.

But it ain't no Wintersday!

Cheers.
Thanks for the good times Gaile!

I was thinking if they do another game like this one, running the charges to get points, that afterwards you would get a prize in your inventory for each point you made. So if you ran your little butt off to help earn that win then you get lots of prizes, if you stood there with your finger up your nose you dont get anything.

Actually that's a really good idea.
But then, what of the people who camp the charge spawn points?
I mean, again, first-come-first-serve, but I think if the charges spawned randomly, rather than the same spots (in the case of this festival) it would make more sense.
Still a good idea though.

I liked being at the event for the most part.

My constructive criticism for future events:

Henchmen Availability
The henchmen should scale to the mini-missions when you enter. If you enter a tough mini-mission, the henchmen should be level 20 with you (or less if you are less so as to not make them a crutch for low-level characters). It might even be a good idea to make low-level mini-missions with level caps just for the low-level characters. Doubling the level 3 or 6 henchmen is not the solution. Some of us like to get away from the crowds and do these things with henchies part of the time and with guild/PuGs the rest of the time.

No Pet Grasps
Grasps should not be able to become 'pets' in the future :-) I think this was a bug that should be looked at in the future.

Mini-Missions != Grinder Missions
The mini-missions would be nice if there was some kind of challenge that actually made the brain think about it (puzzles to solve, etc) instead of just brute force 'grinder' type missions. I think that would be a very big boon to those of us that like doing things like that. You have done it in the past in missions/quests so I know it can be done.

No Midnight
One important note, please do not ever use the term midnight again in the description of the event. Many of us realize what midnight means, but quite a few people have a different interpretation. Some people believe it's 00:00 (the beginning of the date), while others believe its right after 23:59 (the end of the date). Please continue to use GMT, but also use either 23:59 or 00:00 and the date (example: 00:00 PDT July 5 - the early, early morning of July 5/late night of July 4, instead of saying Midnight July 4 or Midnight July 5). People were really sitting in Shing Jae arguing over which day the emperor was coming and when the finale was coming, even though it mentioned the GMT time and the 'for most part all day July 4' phrase.

QA Team aka Bugs
Fire and hire a new QA team. There should not be as many bugs in future events. The Halloween and Wintersday events were very good as far as a lack of bugs. People should definitely NOT worry about losing their pets. For us roleplayers, this is critical. Future events should also have less than 10 Emperors per zone.

I believe that is it for now.. Other than those things, I think the rest was good. The masks were nice. The decorations were great.

Let's just hope the clones don't form their own labor union and demand that there be at least 50. Then again, that would be awesome. Socialism FTW!

  • Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending?
One time only finales seem to leave such a small window that some countries, people, etc.. will be left out. This worked pretty well in my opinion.

  • Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?
The games were great, especially with titles. While I must admit to AFKing occasionally, as it was just so tempting, I would prefer games of chance to be different, as to encourage activity. The idea that a previous poster suggested as to some sort of implementation of a permanent game (or games) of chance would be nice, if it could feasibly be done without draining server resources, and again without making it simple to AFK.

I would like to see something along the lines of card or dice games, but time-period based of course, maybe rune-tossing or Tarot-type base.

  • Were you able to complete the Captain missions?

I completed 4 of them. I loved the challenge, but yes the reward left me with a feeling of, "That's it?" I was somewhat disappointed with the random switching of the quests. It just so happened that the timing for me was always off, and it was very hard to get to Shing Jea at the right time to complete a new one. As chance would have it, numerous times I would go, and it would be a quest I had already completed. I am assuming this has something to do with resources on Anet's part, and I understand. It would have been nice to choose though.

  • Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?
I did fairly well. I was nosey so I bought quite a few gifts initially, and with a couple times during the Emperor's visit I did score a relatively substantial amount of gifts. I think my net gold from those I opened (which between what I purchased and what I was gifted) probably totalled around 10k in gold, tons of bean cakes, which I sold to the merchant, and wine, which I plan to ...utilize. Jade orbs I will just give away sporadically before the end of the week. I'm not big on masks, then always find their way to my trash within a week's time. I'm an order freak.

  • What did you like best? Least?
I liked the Captain's missions the most. But the celestial charge run, was a close second. As for the least, the AFK games did detract from the festival quite a bit. So many people are title hounds, (me included), it was very tempting, and in a way, made the festival less spectacular than it could have been. However, overall I view it as a success, and appreciate all the time and effort that was put into it.

Would you prefer we have a single one-time-only finale? Or do you like the final day sort of ending?

The final day is nice for events that end on a "school night", since some of us have to work in the morning...

Did you enjoy the games? Do you have suggestions for more?
The gambling... horrendously addictive. The games during the event. They were ok... but a little long.

Were you able to complete the Captain missions?
No... but that was usually because a monk would drop... Having it be more than 4 people would have been nicer. I think going through a fairly difficult ordeal like that is fun... but for 50 orbs? Meh.

Did you score a lot of loot from the present drops?
No. I don't like the idea of present drops. I posted about this at the Wintersday Event. Although the drops were spread out more, it prevented SOME of the crappy rudeness from players... I like the idea of items randomly appearing in your inventory... or the fun thing like when the grentchies GAVE them to you. Also... having festival tickets be one of the items from a present would have been really really nice.

What did you like best? Least?
Best: Gambling and Dragon Mask
Least: Deciding to stay up for the first mask... and finding out that the Emperor showed up 8 minutes after I gave up and went to bed. Whack-A-Mole = not so fun. Tickets = 15g each... ok... but buying Festival Prizes for 25 tickets? Ouch.

Its not that I would prefer a single one time finale. Its that, thats what I expected. The Dragon Festival was great, I myself didn't find the ring games amusing and had nothing to do with the dragon festival, but the quests to get the orbs and the dragon arena were fun. I was only disappointed, because I expected a one time, end all, finale. Which didn't happen. I stayed up way too late for some special event....and my only reward was sleeping in the next day.

Mixed feelings. The final day sort is fun and all, but it doesn't have that special feeling.

Wack a worm was fun (shut up). The chance games were just a gold sink to afk some titles. How about a race track where people run the course and have 'buttons' that activate a speed boost when you move over them, while some cripple you or kill you?

I personally didn't try. Challenge is one thing, having a decent reward for that challenge is another.

Best - dyeable masks finally.

Least - Jade Wind Orbs. Come on, everything gave jade wind orbs. All you had to do was the 4 quests and you had enough for a mask. This is part of the reason I didn't do the missions. More orbs. And then more orbs. And hey, more orbs.
